About the Artist, Stephanie Siwek

Stephanie Siwek, Scottish-born and of Polish descent, is a visionary fine artist who works in a variety of media, from digital collage to oil paint.

Teaching herself to draw at the age of three, Stephanie found her true calling in art and pursued this passion throughout her education. Finding art school 'restricting' Stephanie embraced graduation with an enthusiasm for freedom of expression and went on to complete several commissions, including an outdoor mural on Edinburgh's historic Royal Mile.

Conveyed through the decay of memories and buildings, Stephanie's works are alive with metaphors and symbolism, creating visual mind-sets that tell a different story to every viewer. She now lives and works in Scotland's capitol as a fine artist and writer.

Artist's Statement

Little Skull is my artistic muse, a fragile part of myself that I call upon when the time comes to create a new piece of artwork or recycle an old one.

The essence behind little skull, the soul-source of my musings is timelessness, decay, and the breaking down of visual and mental barriers between co-existing realities be it the living and the dead or illusion and reality.

My art reaches to those who trust only their eyes and not what their soul sees. I believe inspiration can be found anywhere, although for me it is the dream world. My aim is to produce art that takes no prisoners, creating visual dreamscapes where anything goes and there are no
restrictions in terms of realism.

I have a love and empathy for the fragility and vulnerability of the human spirit and am fascinated by the power of such a source when called upon. I often find myself drawn to dark subject matter and feel the need to create images of 'obscene beauty' which often exist within a calm sadness.

My art is my passion and life source
to the point that I can lose myself in it.
It is a need in me to create,
I have no option but to obey the muse that is Little Skull!
